Kenwood USA Corp., Communications Sector, announces a wireless site-surveillance solution built on the digital NEXEDGE radio platform for transmitting still images in combination with the new KVT-11 Image Encoder and KAS-11 Image Viewer. The system is designed to transmit images from video cameras in remote sites for easy and economical monitoring. The Wireless Surveillance Solution can be used by law enforcement, government and private industry to observe areas prone to flooding or rock slides, construction sites, dams and national parks.
Where wired solutions are not feasible, wireless communications provided by the NEXEDGE radios is cost-effective. A video camera mounted at the site sends still images through the KVT-11 Image Encoder to the NEXEDGE NX-700/800 digital mobile radios and base station. The base station receiving the image then displays it via the KAS-11 Image Viewer Software on a PC. Images can be sent at predetermined intervals or manually on demand. The operator can also control image transmission by remote control.
The KVT-11 internal memory can store 450 premium quality or 5,400 standard-quality images and is compatible with NTSC and PAL video cameras. Up to 65,000 camera stations can be monitored by the KAS-11, which stores all images automatically on the viewing computer hard drive.
This system was developed jointly by Kenwood and JVC to integrate JVC still image processing technologies, which employ the MPEG-4AVC/H.264 codec standard for high compression efficiency and picture quality, with Kenwood narrowband digital radio technologies.
